Buena Vista, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance on their home court Saturday afternoon, defeating conference opponent Methodist University taking the game 5-2.
The Knights came out strong in doubles play, securing the early point with wins on courts one and two. Paula Snelson and Jillian Arnold cruised to a 6-2 win at the top spot, while Lydia Delich and Remly Fry pulled off a thrilling 7-6 (7-5) victory to seal the advantage.
In singles play, Southern Virginia continued to build momentum. Snelson was dominant in the No. 1 spot, not dropping a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Delich followed with a hard-fought three-set win, outlasting her opponent 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Arnold mirrored the grit on court three, rallying after a first-set loss to take a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory.
Fry added another point for the Knights at No. 4, breezing past her opponent 6-2, 6-0. Despite competitive efforts, Southern Virginia dropped matches at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots.
With the win, the Knights improved to 3-0 in conference action and will look to build on their strong showing when they travel to face Salem on Wednesday, April 9th at 3:00 PM.
