Winchester, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team fell on the road to Shenandoah University by a score of 4-0.
The Hornets struck quickly, scoring within the opening minutes of the contest. The Knights responded with a strong stretch around the 27th minute, as Delin Peterson and Lucy Skidmore both tested the Hornets' keeper. Southern Virginia also earned back-to-back corner kicks during the sequence but was unable to capitalize. Shenandoah doubled its lead in the 37th minute to make it 2-0 at the half.
While the Knights held a 3-0 edge in corner kicks, Shenandoah's relentless attack left Southern Virginia trailing 15-5 in shots.
The second half followed a similar pattern, as the Hornets added an early goal before the Knights pressed forward with attempts from Xoie Warner and Courtney Montes. Shenandoah sealed the match with its fourth goal in the 78th minute.
A total of 24 Knights saw action in the contest, with goalkeepers Beth Manwill and Chloë Miller each recording six saves in their respective halves.
Southern Virginia now turns its focus to the final match of its road trip, a non-conference showdown against nationally ranked No. 15 Washington and Lee University on Friday, September 12, in Lexington, Va.
