Manwill’s 14-Save Effort Highlights Knights’ Narrow Loss to #15 Washington & Lee

Lexington, Va. – The Southern Virginia women's soccer team battled hard on the road against nationally ranked #15 Washington and Lee, ultimately falling 1-0 in a tightly contested match.

The Generals came out strong, recording three shots and a corner within the opening five minutes before breaking through in the 7th minute to take the lead. Their quick midfield and consistent pressure kept the Knights' defense on its heels throughout much of the first half.

Goalkeeper Beth Manwill was outstanding in net, finishing the night with 14 saves while facing an onslaught of 40 shots. Her resilience kept the Knights within striking distance despite Washington and Lee's relentless attack.

Southern Virginia fough back to try and equalized late, pushing forward in the closing minutes with a shot from Delin Peterson and a corner kick opportunity, but the Generals held on for the 1-0 victory.

The Knights now return home to finish up the opening non-conference slate before beginning conference play, hosting Bridgewater College on Thursday, September 18th.
