Southern Virginia Women’s Soccer Showcases Offensive Firepower Behind Two Hat Tricks

Buena Vista, VA. – The Southern Virginia women's soccer team debuted their new black Knight uniforms in dominant fashion Tuesday night, defeating Salem College 10-0 and tying a program-high for goals in a single match. The record was last reached on September 1, 2016, against Sweet Briar.

Both Xoie Warner and Courtney Montes recorded hat tricks to headline the Knights' offensive explosion.

Southern Virginia wasted no time, opening the scoring in the 4th minute when Delin Peterson and Warner combined on a give-and-go, with Warner finishing the play. Just six minutes later, Warner struck again after intercepting a misplayed pass between Salem's defender and goalkeeper, doubling the lead to 2-0.

Montes added her first goal in the 15th minute scoring off a corner from Rachel Bodkin

Montes had another goal in the 38th minute after firing a powerful shot into the top left corner from distance. A minute later, Desana Grabarczyk capitalized on a rebound following a saved shot by Ashlee Kelsey to send the Knights into halftime up 5-0.

The Knights stayed relentless after the break. Warner completed her brace in the 51st minute with a composed finish to the bottom right corner before Matia Murray added the team's seventh goal in the 68th minute, finishing a clever setup from Abbie Simister. Warner then completed her hat trick, cleaning up a rebound from another Peterson shot.

Montes matched her teammate with a long-range strike for her third goal, squeezing a low shot past the Salem keeper, before Estee Schneider capped off the scoring with a high-arching shot in the closing minutes to seal the 10-0 result.

The Knights are now 2-0 in USA South play, outscoring opponents 16-3 in their first two conference matches. They look to carry the momentum into their next contest on Friday, September 26th, when they travel to Meredith College for a 7:00 PM kickoff.
