Ferrum, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw on the road against Ferrum College on Tuesday evening.

The Knights started slow, and Ferrum capitalized with a goal in the 21st minute to take an early lead. Despite trailing, Southern Virginia began to find their rhythm with a pair of corner kicks and shots from Addison Newman and Courtney Montes, both turned away by the Panther goalkeeper. McKenna Currey added another chance late in the half, but the Knights entered the break behind 1-0.

Statistically, the opening 45 minutes were nearly even, with the Knights holding slight edges in shots (4-2) and corner kicks (3-2).

The second half, however, was all Southern Virginia. A deep bench and frequent rotations kept fresh legs on the field, allowing the Knights to dominate possession and outshoot Ferrum 10-0 over the final period. Xoie Warner, Rachel Bodkin, and Delin Peterson all came close to leveling the score, but the breakthrough didn't come until the 84th minute, when Hailey Gadd buried a penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1.

Southern Virginia pushed hard in the final five minutes in search of the winner but ultimately settled for the draw.

The Knights continue their road trip this weekend, heading to Winchester, Va., for a non-conference matchup against Shenandoah University. Southern Virginia will be seeking its first-ever win over the Hornets after falling 3-2 in last year's contest.
