WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In their first contest of 2025, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team kept their perfect conference record intact with a dominant 86-42 win over Salem College.
The Knights were off and running in the first quarter, opening a 9-0 lead. Maria Savvun hit a couple of early threes in what would be a career day for the senior.
Southern Virginia heavily outscored its opponent in the second, bringing the lead to 39-17 by the halftime break. Emma Openshaw hit back-to-back shots late in the frame to aid in the effort.
After a slow start, Abigail Snyder found a rhythm in the third with 11 points. Maria Savvun continued her hot shooting as the Southern Virginia lead ballooned to over thirty by the start of the fourth and final frame. Her seven three-pointers by the end of the game were a career high.
Southern Virginia was in cruise control the rest of the way thanks to a well-balanced attack. The dynamic frontcourt duo of Anna Kimball and Aysia Foster produced another efficient outing. Kimball recorded her third double-doubleof the season and Foster posted a block and two steals to go with 11 points.
In the end, the Knights shot an impressive 52% from the field on their way to an 86-42 victory, bringing their record against USA South foes to a perfect 5-0.

Next on the schedule, Southern Virginia will host their first game of the new year against Methodist. Tipoff in Knight Arena is set for Wednesday, January 7th, at 6:00 PM.
