Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Quin Meyer

Southern Virginia Women’s Basketball Coasts By Methodist

BUENA VISTA, Va. - Back on their home floor for the first time in nearly a month, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team didn't disappoint their home fans.

Fueled by a dominant performance from senior guard Abigail Snyder, the Knights took down another conference rival, Methodist, by a score of 85-56.

After a somewhat conservative start to the game, Southern Virginia's shooters began to heat up. They ended the first quarter on a 19-3, fueled by a couple of triples from Snyder.

Things didn't change throughout the second, the Knights continued to rain it in from three and nearly stretched the lead to thirty, ultimately heading into the locker room ahead 55-29.

Maria Savvun was an effective facilitator the rest of the day, racking up the assists as the Knights lead grew. Maya Foster was also having a solid outing, eventually scoring 8 points to go with five rebounds and a steal and a block.

Snyder remained the star of the show as she passed 30 points for the second time this season. The conference's leading scorer poured in a career high of 36 points, the second most in program history and just one point short of the all-time mark.

She also collected 17 rebounds, tied for the most in the conference this season, to complete her third double-double of the season.

Maria Savvun was the second Knight on the day to record a double-double, finishing with 11 points while dishing out 11 assists, also the second most in a game in program history.

Looking Ahead

Still with a spotless mark in league play, Southern Virginia will march on to North Carolina Wesleyan for their next matchup. Tipoff is set for Saturday, January 10th at 2:00 PM in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
