Southern Virginia Men’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener Despite Second Half Surge

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team made the long journey south to open their season against the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), ultimately falling by a score of 15-9.

After relinquishing the opening three goals, the Knights found their first tally of the season thanks to the work of Jackson Haley who wired home his first career goal around the midway point of the first quarter.

Myles Nielson and Samuel Terreros also found the back of the net in the first half for Southern Virginia, but they found themselves with a deficit to climb out of.

In the third, Garrett Zollinger led the Knights on an important run to end the quarter, scoring two of four straight goals for the visitors. A couple of tallies from JC Winterton brought Southern Virginia to within four at 9-13, but the Bees would hang on in the end for their second win.

Zollinger's three goals led the team while Jace Lightfoot made 13 saves in goal. Isaac Finley and Max Taylor each had three caused turnovers to lead the defense.

Season Opener

On Saturday, February 7th at 1:00 PM, the Knights will have a chance to secure their first win of the season at home when they face off with Marymount. Southern Virginia has won the last two meetings between the two squads.
