RALEIGH, N.C. - Picking up where they left off earlier this week, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team remained in the winner's circle after a 3-2 decision over William Peace on Saturday afternoon.
It's the second consecutive win for the Knights, who avenge a quarterfinal loss to the Pacers in last year's USA South Tournament.
Southern Virginia was off to the races after a goal from Landon Stock to open the scoring just fifteen minutes in. He was on the receiving end of a nice feed from Dexter Gunderson after a 2-on-1 developed.
The Pacers would take the game minutes later after a penalty was awarded, then even took the lead in the 21st, sapping the Knights of their early momentum.
Despite facing a deficit to begin the second half, Southern Virginia remained opportunistic and found an equalizer just five minutes into the frame. Jackson Gorringe unleashed a cracking shot from outside the box that blew by the keeper for his first goal of the season.
In the 77th minute, Stock was at it again and rose up to get a head on a cross from Logan Gubler that trickled into the left side of the cage.
The Knights managed to stave off any comeback from William Peace to string together their first winning streak of the season.
Landon Stock had his best outing of the season, factoring in on the Gorringe marker with an assist in addition to his two goals. Isaac Northcutt went the distance in goal for the Knights, making five saves.
Looking Ahead
Southern Virginia will look for three in a row when they visit Regent University in Virginia Beach on Wednesday, October 14th, at 3:00 PM. It'll be their final non-conference matchup of the season.
