BRIDGEWATER, Va. - As they near the home stretch of the regular season, the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team took a brief hiatus from league play to duel with Bridgewater in a non-conference matchup.
After falling behind two sets, the Knights showed resilience to force a deciding fifth set. However, the Eagles, who rank third in Region VI, put together an impressive final frame to spoil Southern Virginia's upset bid.
Anne Downs showed up big time and posted a career high of 22 kills, also recording both of the Knights' set-clinching points.
Chloe Murray was another who posted a career best with her 42 assists. The freshman from Saratoga Springs, Utah has overcome an early season injury bug to emerge as the Knights' starting setter.
Ultimately, Southern Virginia came just three points short of completing a reverse sweep. A quartet of Knights tallied double figures in digs, including Laura Forsgren and Lucy Richins.
Looking Ahead
It'll be all USA South opponents from here on out as the postseason sits less than two weeks away. They'll visit Mary Baldwin tomorrow, Wednesday, October 28th at 6:30 PM.
