RALEIGH, N.C. - To continue its conference slate, the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team returned to Raleigh for the second time within a week, this time to pay a visit to William Peace for a tri-match.
Game One
Against the hosts in the first match of the day, Southern Virginia would be forced to try and overcome a sluggish start.
The Pacers took the first two sets with no issues, putting the Knights on the brink of defeat. In the third, Southern Virginia came out on fire, rattling off the first seven points. William Peace battled back to take a late lead, causing Debby Baker to use a timeout.
Out of the break, Anne Downs registered a couple of kills to bring Southern Virginia within one, 24-23. However, the next point belonged to the Pacers to finish off the Knights in three.
Game Two
Looking to bounce back, the Knights faced a rematch of the 2024 USA South Tournament final. In the early stages, Downs and Baylee Mirabal combined for several kills to help Southern Virginia to a one set lead.
Salem struggled to solve the Knights defense, as they eventually found themselves in a 2-0 hole.
In a much more competitive third set, Southern Virginia staved off a huge comeback thanks to a couple of kills from Mirabal. Her and Downs combined for 27 kills. The Knights also served up nine aces compared to Salem's three.
Looking Ahead
Pfeiffer will be the obstacle in the way of another winning streak for the Knights on Wednesday, October 7th at 6:00 PM in Knight Arena. Southern Virginia has defeated the Falcons in four consecutive games.
