BUENA VISTA, Va. - In dramatic fashion, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team earned its first win in league play, defeating Greensboro by a count of 1-0.
In the opening minutes, Greensboro held the early edge in possession, but it didn't take long for the Knights to find their footing.
Southern Virginia would send six shots toward the Greensboro cage in the first half, forcing the keeper into four saves.
In the 38th minute, a powerful free kick from London Timothy proved tough to handle and nearly snuck through on a rebound. Ultimately, both keepers were up to the task as the score remained tied at the break.
In the second frame, Southern Virginia's attack was unrelenting. Just a minute after the opening kick, Landon Stock caused a turnover and tapped home a shot with the help of Mark Grimmer, but he would be called offside.

Despite the adversity, they continued to produce high-danger chances, several just a fingertip away from going in. The Knights would total eight shots on goal in the half.
Finally, they were rewarded on a free kick from midfield. A set piece from Jacob Nielsen connected with London Timothy, then Josh Woffinden, before Kenyon Grange drilled home the eventual game winner into the left side of the goal.
Isaac Northcutt earned the clean sheet in goal, and the Knights earned a valuable three points in the USA South standings.
Looking Ahead
On Saturday, October 10th, Southern Virginia will travel to William Peace for a rematch of last year's quarterfinal matchup in the conference tournament. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
