Southern Virginia Men’s Lacrosse Drops Hard Fought Battle To Colonels

BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team dropped their first home contest of the season on Saturday, losing a 20-12 decision to Centre at Knight Stadium.

The squads traded turnovers in their opening possessions, but Centre managed to open the scoring with just over two minutes gone.

After falling behind by three, Jackson Haley got the Knights on the board with his seventh goal of the young season as Southern Virginia began to find their footing.

Haley added another in the second quarter, and combined with snipes from Clay Haacke and Garrett Zollinger, the Knights found themselves down just two midway through the second.

Eventually, Centre extended their lead to as much as seven thanks to the stellar play of Ryan Black, whose six goals and 10 points led all players.

Despite the deficit, Southern Virginia remained within striking distance thanks to solid defensive play, particularly from Britton Tidwell. The freshman from Bountiful, Utah caused seven turnovers which was tops for all players.

Ultimately, the Colonels collected their first win of the season in handing the Knights their first home loss of the season.

Looking Ahead

Southern Virginia will look to return to the win column in their next matchup, a date with Rhodes College at home on Friday, February 27th at 7:00 PM.
