Southern Virginia Men’s Lacrosse Defeated By Rhodes

BUENA VISTA, Va. - Looking to get back into the win column, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team hosted Rhodes College in their final contest before they open league play.

Unfortunately for the Knights, they were taken down by a talented Rhodes squad who put up 13 first half goals en route to a 23-8 victory.

In the first quarter, Southern Virginia found themselves in an early deficit when Rhodes notched goals on three straight possessions. Clay Haacke was the first to find the back of the net for the Knights, tallying his fifth goal of the season just over five minutes gone.

The visitors kept stringing multi-goal runs together, keeping Southern Virginia on their heels. The quick start for Rhodes gave them a comfortable lead for the most of the evening, and they never looked back.

Haacke and Bosten Schilleman scored on back-to-back possessions of the Knights in the forth quarter, but it wasn't enough to change the result before the final buzzer.

Clay Haacke and Jackson Haley each notched multi-goal games for the Knights, who fall to 1-4 on the season.

Alfredo Hurtado, Lincoln Timothy and Britton Tidwell each caused two turnovers and Jace Lightfoot made seven stops in goal.

Looking Ahead

Competition within the USA South is up next for the Knights, who entered the season projected to finish fourth in the preseason coaches poll. They'll visit Piedmont for their first matchup on Saturday, March 7th, at 12:00 PM.
