BUENA VISTA, Va. - Still riding high from a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the USA South semifinal, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team carried that momentum with them on the road for the 2026 USA South Championship game.
In a rematch of last year's final, the Knights led from start to finish in a thrilling title game, using a fourth quarter surge to collect their fourth tournament title in five years after a 82-74 win.
The Knights got out in front of their opponents with a sharp-shooting first quarter. Abigail Snyder, the newly minted USA Player of the Year, was dominant, collecting 15 points in the opening frame.
After taking a 22-16 lead into the second quarter, the play leveled out as the teams traded buckets. Still, after another efficient quarter of shooting, Southern Virginia maintained its lead to carry a 41-36 advantage into the half.

In the second half, the game truly turned into a matchup that fans hoped for between the two best teams in the league over the last three years.
Aysia Foster, the hero of Southern Virginia's dramatic semifinal victory, was beginning to put her stamp on the championship game. With time winding down in the third, Foster hit a jump shot from just beyond the free throw line to beat the buzzer, reinstating a five-point lead.
The Knights went on a crucial 6-0 run to open the final frame, bringing the lead to double-digits which seemingly put the Tornado's into desperation mode.
Each time Brevard made a push, Southern Virginia responded and were led by their senior leaders. Foster couldn't be stopped as she notched a career high of 24 points on 12 of 15 shooting.

Abigail Snyder scored a game high 28 points and when the final buzzer sounded, Southern Virginia was on top of the USA South once again after an 82-74 victory.
Snyder was named the Tournament MVP, adding three steals, ten rebounds, and never left the floor during a tremendous all-around effort.
Maria Savvun added 17 points and made crucial free throws down the stretch, while Kensey Peterson stepped up with 13 points and an efficient day from the field.
NCAA Division lll Selection Show
With their ticket punched after the conference win, Southern Virginia now awaits the NCAA selection show to determine where they'll play in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
The selection show will air on Monday, March 2nd at 2:30 PM ET.
