BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team stuck to their winning ways on Thursday night, securing a hard fought win over Meredith, 66-51.
The Avenging Angels had the early edge in the first, hitting four of their first five shots to take a 9-4 lead.
The Knights managed to weather the storm, allowing just two points over the final six minutes of the opening frame. Abigail Snyder scored 10 points as Southern Virginia took a 12-11 lead into the second.
The rest of the first half remained tight. The Knights struggled shooting the ball, but dominated on the offensive glass to help add to their lead before halftime.
Southern Virginia seemed to return to form in the third, recording 23 points while shooting 60% from the field. Ruth Kempler collected several of her six total offensive boards in the quarter, leading to plenty of second chance points.
Maya Foster also came in and drilled a key three-pointer to extend the Knights lead to double-digits. From there, Snyder took over in the scoring department, nailing several threes of her own to record yet another 30 point game.
In the end, Southern Virginia put Meredith away with a strong defensive performance in the final quarter, holding them to just nine points.
Snyder finished with 34 points, dangerously close to the single-game program record of 37. Kempler added 10 rebounds and Lily Delarosa dished out four assists to aid the attack.
