Dastrup Shows Out In Back-to-Back Victories For Southern Virginia Men’s Volleyball

LANCASTER, Pa. - During another busy weekend of volleyball, the Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team was on the road for another tri-match, hosted by Lancaster Bible College.

The Knights, a top ten team in the land, were hitting on all cylinders en route to two victories over Eastern, and the hosts, Lancaster Bible to open a new winning streak.

Match One

Against Eastern, the Knights were steady, leading for most of each set and eventually built a 2-0 lead.

In the third and potential final frame, a string of five straight Southern Virginia points, made possible with two aces from Brady Dastrup and a couple of kills from Tommy Forese, served as the dagger in an eventual sweep.

Forese led both teams with 12 kills while Gehrig Tolman dished out 29 assists. Isaac Carillo served extremely well, posting five aces to only two service errors.

While he appeared in a couple of sets to serve earlier in the season, the match also marked the full-debut of David Ward, a transfer from Eastern Mennonite, in a Knight uniform. Ward performed well, collecting 8 kills to fuel the attack.

Match Two

The second match of the day was a rematch from a bout earlier in the season with Lancaster Bible, a 3-0 Southern Virginia victory.

Looking for a signature win against the defending champs, the Chargers came out swinging and managed to steal an opening set win, holding off a late charge from the Knights.

The duo of Brady Dastrup and Nathan Mitchell tag-teamed the second frame, posting back-to-back kills on multiple occasions to put momentum back on the side of Southern Virginia.

They controlled the next three, ultimately defeating the Chargers in four sets to cap off an undefeated weekend. Dastrup recorded a career high of 18 kills in the win.

Looking Ahead

On Wednesday, March 4th, the team will be back to compete in Knight Arena for the first time in over three weeks. They'll host St. John Fisher at 7:00 PM.
