BUENA VISTA, Va. - Fresh off a dominant win earlier in the week, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team looked to establish their first winning streak of the season on Saturday afternoon.
However, Piedmont, a USA South foe, put together a quality road performance at Knight Stadium, collecting a 15-9 victory.
Ellie Patterson was the first to find the back of the net just over thirty seconds after the opening draw. Patterson, the Knights' leading scorer, is coming off a six-goal outing against William Peace.
The teams traded goals over the next few minutes before the Lions used a string of seven consecutive goals to grab a 10-3 lead.
The run would prove costly for the Knights, as it turned out to be the difference for Piedmont by the time the final buzzer sounded.
There were still many positive moments in the game for Southern Virginia. They outscored the Lions over the final 32 minutes of the game, and got multi-goal games from Patterson, Loni Rogers, and Ricky Richards who notched her third career hat trick.
Defensively, Ellie Patterson caused eight turnovers, a career high for the senior. Berkli Jones added three to her name.
Looking Ahead
Southern Virginia will travel to Pfeiffer for their next game on Wednesday, March 11th, with the opening draw slated for 4:00 PM.
