ARLINGTON, Va. - In the midst of spring break and a quiet week on campus, the Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team continued its slate of CVC contests with a visit to Marymount.
After four competitive sets, the Knights extended their win streak to ten over the Saints to remain undefeated in league play.
At the end of the first set, the teams traded service errors before Tommy Forese put the opening frame to bed with a kill.
Marymount continued to hang around in the second, trailing by one as late as 21-20, but Brady Dastrup put down another set-winning kill to place the Saints on the brink of defeat.
The hosts returned serve in the third, leading for most of the set. A string of blocks from Nathan Mitchell vaulted Southern Virginia to lead at one point, but a resilient Marymount squad scored the final four points of the set to stave off defeat.
With the result teetering in the middle of the fourth, Tommy Forese and Jason Wang combined for three blocks in short order to help the Knights assume control of the game. Dastrup, Mitchell, and Gehrig Tolman joined in to make five players with at least four blocks on the night.
Ultimately, Wang clinched the win with a kill. Dastrup had a monster game, recording 15 kills while hitting .542. Tolman produced 36 assists and Mitchell led with 7 blocks.
Looking Ahead
The team returns home to face another CVC foe, this time in front of their home fans. They'll face Wilkes on Saturday, March 21st at 2:00 PM.
