FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Looking to string together a three-game win streak, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team matched up with Methodist on Saturday afternoon.
One of the better teams in the conference over the last few seasons, the Monarchs used a quick start to put the Knights away early. Despite allowing just four goals in the second half, Southern Virginia would lose its first game in two weeks, 14-4.
After conceding the first five goals of the game, Ricky Richards got her team on the board just over halfway through the opening frame.
Richards teamed with Ellie Patterson to score all four of Southern Virginia's goals. The duo leads the team with 19 and 14 markers respectively.
Defensively, Savanna Burnett totaled 13 saves, including seven in the second quarter. It's the second most saves for Burnett in a game since she donned a Knights jersey for the first time.
Patterson racked up another 8 caused turnovers, giving her 33 on the season, now just five off the program record for most in a single-season. She currently sits fourth in all of Division lll with nearly five caused turnovers per game.
Looking Ahead
The Knights will look to return to the win column on Tuesday, March 24th when they host Bridgewater for a non-conference bout. The opening draw is slated for 7:00 PM.
