BUENA VISTA, Va. - Back on their home turf after a lengthy trip which spanned three different time zones, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team hosted St. Mary's College of Maryland on Tuesday afternoon.
After a tightly contested opening quarter, the Seahawks surged ahead in the second half, holding the Knights to just two goals over the final three quarters in a 15-4 decision.
After allowing the Seahawks the first two goals of the game, Myles Nielson and Scott DuPaix responded with back-to-back goals to knot the score at two.
Southern Virginia defender Isaac Finley was off to a quality start, causing a turnover which allowed DuPaix to bury his game-tying goal.
St. Mary's scored two quick ones at the end of the first to grab the momentum which carried over into the final three quarters. They rattled off 13 straight goals before Kyle Boden and Myles Nielson of the Knights cashed in for two in the fourth.
Despite shutting out the visitors in the final frame, the damage had been done as the Knights dropped their seventh game of the year.
Jace Lightfoot made 18 saves in goal, a season high. Britton Tidwell caused four turnovers while Kanyun Avner and Isaac Finley added three themselves.
Looking Ahead
The Knights remain home this week in preparation for another home contest with a non-conference foe. Berry will be their next challenger on Saturday, March 28th at 12:00 PM.
