Brevard, N.C. – The Southern Virginia softball team opened conference play with a 1-3 weekend, falling twice to reigning conference champion Pfeiffer before splitting a doubleheader on the road at Brevard College.
Game 1: Southern Virginia 0 – Pfeiffer 7
The Knights dropped their conference opener 7-0 despite finishing with just one fewer hit than the Falcons. Southern Virginia left runners on base in each of the final four innings, limiting scoring opportunities.
Sophia Badell led the offense with two hits, while Emmaline DeGroot and Annabelle Cossa combined for six innings in the circle.
Game 2: Southern Virginia 2 – Pfeiffer 6
Pfeiffer jumped out early and never looked back, recording 12 hits compared to four for the Knights. Badell provided the highlight for Southern Virginia with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, but the late push wasn't enough to close the gap.
Game 3: Southern Virginia 9 – Brevard 17
In an action-packed contest, the Knights answered an early four-run inning from Brevard with a strong second frame. Mattison Christensen and Berkeley Whitten each launched home runs, while Badell added a two-RBI double to give Southern Virginia a 6-4 lead.
Brevard responded with nine runs over the first three innings. Despite solo home runs from Badell and Whitten to tie the game at nine, the Tornadoes pulled away with an eight-run fifth inning to secure the win.
Game 4: Southern Virginia 11 – Brevard 10 (8 inn.)
The Knights closed the weekend with a thrilling extra-inning victory, powered by one of the top offensive performances in program history. Southern Virginia recorded 21 hits—the second-most in a single game in program history.
Taelor Ware delivered a historic performance, going 5-for-5 at the plate to set a new program record for hits in a game. Abby Southern earned the win in the circle, holding off Brevard in the extra frame.
Ware was one of several Knights contributing at the plate, as the offense erupted throughout the lineup. Badell capped off an outstanding weekend with three home runs and a staggering 1.286 slugging percentage.
Southern Virginia returns home for a six-game conference homestand, beginning with a doubleheader against William Peace University on Friday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m.
