Lynchburg, Va. – The Southern Virginia University beach volleyball team concluded one of its biggest tournaments of the season this weekend, competing in a five-team event hosted by the University of Lynchburg over three days.
The Knights opened play against Liberty University, falling in a tightly contested 3-2 match. Southern Virginia picked up wins on Courts 3 and 5, highlighted by a straight-set victory from the duo of Hale and Madland and a three-set battle from Peterson and Savage. Liberty secured the team win with victories on Courts 1, 2, and 4.
Southern Virginia bounced back in its second match against Regent University, earning a 3-2 victory. The Knights dominated on the lower courts, with Hale and Madland, Wilde and Larson, and Downs and Prows all earning straight-set wins to clinch the match. Regent claimed wins on Courts 1 and 2.
On Saturday, the Knights faced Stevenson University but came up short in another close contest, 3-2. Southern Virginia earned its two points from Hale and Madland on Court 3 and pushed Stevenson to three sets on multiple courts, but the Mustangs ultimately secured the team victory.
Southern Virginia responded well to close out the tournament, beginning with a 3-2 win over Richard Bland College. The Knights earned key victories from Brynn and Charity on Court 2, Hale and Madland on Court 3, and Peterson and Savage on Court 5, with two of those wins coming in three-set battles.
The Knights then capped off the weekend with another 3-2 victory over host Lynchburg. After dropping the top two courts, Southern Virginia rallied behind strong performances from Hale and Madland, Wilde and Larson, and Downs and Prows to secure the comeback win.
Southern Virginia finishes the tournament with a 9-9 overall record and will now have a short break before heading north to the Stevenson Tournament beginning Friday, April 10, where they will face several familiar opponents from this weekend.
