Lynchburg, Va. – The Southern Virginia University beach volleyball team competed in the Liberty Tournament over the weekend, finishing 1–2 overall while picking up a dominant 5–0 victory over Lancaster Bible College.
The Knights opened the tournament Friday with a commanding sweep of the Chargers. Southern Virginia did not drop a single set in the match, showcasing strong play across every flight. Tiari Puriri and Callie Tuckfield secured a 21–11, 21–17 win, while Gabi Hale and Brooklyn Madland followed with a 21–14, 21–12 victory. Charity Elam and Brynn Keeling added another point with a 21–19, 21–12 win, and Charlotte Wilde and Sophia Larson claimed a 21–17, 21–15 result. Baylee Savage and Emily Peterson completed the sweep with a decisive 21–11, 21–11 victory.
Southern Virginia faced tougher competition on Saturday, falling in two tightly contested matches against Liberty University and the University of Lynchburg by identical 3–2 scores.
Wilde and Larson continued their strong weekend at the No. 4 flight, earning a gritty three-set win over Lynchburg, 21–15, 21–23, 15–8, before adding another victory against Liberty with a 21–15, 21–15 performance. Peterson and Savage also had a successful weekend, securing wins over Lynchburg (21–10, 23–21) and Liberty (21–10, 21–19).
The Knights' top flights battled hard in both matches, pushing several contests to decisive third sets, but ultimately came up just short.
Southern Virginia will have a short turnaround before returning to action Tuesday, March 10, when the Knights travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, for a doubleheader at Wake Tech College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
