Southern Virginia Men’s Volleyball Closes Weekend With Key Victories Over Ranked Opponents

UNION/NEWARK, N.J. - As we inch closer to the postseason, the Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team defeated two more CVC opponents over the weekend, essentially locking up the conference regular season crown.

In Union, New Jersey on Friday evening, the Knights needed just three sets to take down Kean, who entered the week at No. 18 in the AVCA national poll.

It was a big bounce-back victory after falling to No. 4 Stevens the night before. Brady Dastrup and Tommy Forese finished in double-figures for kills while Nathan Mitchell dominated at the net, recording six blocks.

The team kept rolling the next morning in Newark. Despite finding themselves in a 2-1 deficit to Rutgers-Newark, Southern Virginia rallied for a dominant fourth set win to force a winner-take-all fifth and final frame.

Trajan Wadsworth came up big in the clutch, producing four kills in the fifth to help the Knights clinch their second win over a ranked opponent in two days. It also leaves them undefeated in the CVC ahead of the final week of the regular season.

Tom Peterson's squad finished a busy weekend by claiming a win over New Jersey City in four sets. Caleb Fisher was a force, tallying four blocks to lead a strong defensive effort.

Looking Ahead

With just one game left on the regular season schedule, Southern Virginia will take a much needed few days off from competition before facing Drew on Friday, April 3rd at 7:00 PM for senior night.
