Southern Virginia University Rugby Closes Season at Collegiate Rugby Championships

Boyds, MD – The Southern Virginia University men's rugby team wrapped up its best 7s season in program history, finishing ranked 12th in the Division I Men's Premier 7s.

Head coach Paul Lasike said, "Not the results we wanted today, but I'm proud of the effort these boys gave. Great learning experience, and we keep moving forward."

The Knights competed against some of the toughest programs in Division I rugby and earned a commendable 12th-place national finish.

Southern Virginia opened the championship with a 22–17 win over Fairfield University before narrowly falling to Belmont Abbey College, 19–10, in the West Premier Cup semifinal on Friday afternoon.

The Knights bounced back later that day with a 33–19 victory over Utah State University. However, they dropped their final two matches, falling to Brown University, 31–12, and University of Mary Washington, 22–17, to conclude the 2025–26 season.

Under first-year head coach Paul Lasike, the Knights showed a new level of competitiveness that fully blossomed during the 7s season. The program earned its first-ever automatic qualifier—securing two this year—and achieved its highest national ranking in school history.

With a young core returning, the Knights look ahead to a full fall schedule with high expectations.
