BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team returned to the win column on Tuesday afternoon after a goal-filled victory over Greensboro.
The big news of the day came courtesy of Ellie Patterson, who set a new single-game program record with nine goals as part of a 12 point outing.
After Patterson scored the game's opening goal just over two minutes in, the teams were at a stalemate for about six minutes, each side having multiple opportunities on the attack. Both goalies made quality saves before the Knights finally broke through again.
Paysen Grandy, Loni Rogers, and May Webb all added goals in the first, extending Southern Virginia to 7-0. They continued to load the scoresheet through the rest of the first half to hold a 12-1 advantage after 30 minutes.

With just over two minutes left in regulation, and Southern Virginia leading 18-3, Ellie Patterson made no mistake on a free position shot to register goal number nine on the day, eclipsing a four year record set by Alissa Johnson which had been matched by Kenzie Poulsen last season.
It's the second major record broken by Patterson this season, who just set the single-season mark for caused turnovers in a victory over Wilson two weeks ago.
Paysen Grandy and Ricky Richards notched four point games, while Savanna Burnett made two saves in the win. Ultimately, Southern Virginia clinched their fourth win over a USA South opponent to advance their overall record to 5-6.
Looking Ahead
The Knights will celebrate senior day on Saturday, April 11th after their next contest. They'll host Brevard College with an opening draw slated for 3:00 PM.
