Lynette Schroeder Levels Up After Seven Historic Seasons With Southern Virginia Women’s Basketball

BUENA VISTA, Va. - After seven seasons and numerous championships, Southern Virginia University's Lynette Schroeder announced her decision to step down as Head Coach of the women's basketball team.

In turn, Schroeder will be the next Head Coach for Division ll Westminster University in Salt Lake City, Utah, competing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

"I am grateful for the legacy Lynette leaves behind," said SVU Athletic Director, Josh Monsen.  

"Her transition to the next level of competition is a testament to her hard work, and we are so thankful to have been a part of the Schroeders journey and wish them our very best."

Schroeder guided Southern Virginia through its most successful era in women's basketball since joining the NCAA in 2013. Under her leadership, the Knights compiled a record of 123-51 and garnered three regular season conference titles, four USA South tournament titles, and earned the first NCAA tournament win in program history.

When asked about her time as coach, she reflected fondly on the growth of her players.

"I'll treasure the relationships with our student-athletes. More than any wins or accolades, I'll cherish seeing them grow in faith and become strong leaders who love God and strive to make a difference in the world."

Previously, Coach Schroeder was an Assistant on the Westminster staff during the 2018-19 season. She helped the Griffins to the RMAC tournament final and an NCAA tournament berth, the first in program history.

"I'm ready for the challenge of competing in one of the top conferences in Division ll basketball. It's an opportunity to build a championship culture by helping student-athletes understand who they are and what they're capable of."

Student-athletes have also excelled individually during Schroeder's tenure. Two All-Americans, five All-Region, and three conference Player of the Year awards have been recognized under her watch.
