Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team continued its strong start to conference play Wednesday night, defeating the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan University 2-0.
The Knights took control early, as Halle Willardson scored her second goal in as many games. In the fourth minute, Xoie Warner found Willardson wide open with only the goalkeeper to beat, and Willardson placed her shot into the left corner to give Southern Virginia a 1-0 lead.
Southern Virginia continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, recording 12 additional shots and five corner kicks before taking the one-goal advantage into halftime.
The Knights doubled their lead in the 56th minute following a corner kick from Rachel Winterton. Winterton's service sailed into the box, where McKenna Currey headed the ball into the net for her second goal of the season..
Southern Virginia continued to look for additional scoring opportunities, recording 11 more shots and six additional corner kicks in the second half. The Knights ultimately secured the 2-0 victory while holding commanding advantages of 29-3 in shots and 13-2 in corner kicks.
The Knights remain undefeated in conference play and will look to continue their momentum when they travel to William Peace University on Saturday, Sept. 26, for a 10 a.m. kickoff. Southern Virginia has won three consecutive meetings against the Pacers.
