HARRISONBURG, Va. - While dodging heat and severe weather, the Southern Virginia University men's and women's cross country teams produced exceptional results at the Roland & Darlene Landes Invite, hosted by Eastern Mennonite.

Course records were re-written in the men's and women's races, done so by a pair of Knights as they claimed individual victories in the process. The Southern Virginia women's team came out on top in the team race, recording an impressive 17 points, while the men finished in second.

Men's Results

The men toed the line first. Kovyk Chandler made himself known amongst the leaders, eventually striding away from the pack and crossing the line in first. His time of 15:35 smashes the previous course record, and makes him the first Knight to run under 16 minutes on the winding, hilly five kilometer configuration.

Joseph Hughes matched his time on the same course from a year ago which helped to a fifth place finish. Jackson Brown and Ethan Hughes weren't too far, also claiming spots in the top ten, finishing seventh and eighth respectively. The team accumulated 34 points, just nine back of the winners.

Women's Results

It was all Southern Virginia in the women's race. The trio of Bayleigh Armstrong, Sasha Braddy, and Amee Newman assumed control at the front and occupied the top three spots when they crossed the line.

Armstrong clocked in at 17:53 to become the first women to complete the course in under 18 minutes. Braddy and Newman came in just under 19 minutes, an impressive feat as well. To round out the Knights scoring, Hazel Scharman performed well in her first collegiate appearance, crossing the line sixth overall. She was followed by Kyra Lee in seventh.

Looking Ahead

Southern Virginia will next hit the course on Saturday, September 19th in Earlysville, Virginia. It'll be a preview of the South Regional meet, held this November at Panorama Farms.
