Southern Virginia University

Jake Barney has served as the Sports Performance Director at Southern Virginia University since the fall of 2015.

Barney earned his bachelor's degree from Colorado Mesa University in kinesiology-fitness & health promotion while also receiving a minor in personal training. He has since received a master's in science degree from Logan University in nutrition and human-performance.

From 2013-2014 Barney was a sports performance assistant at CMU, where he personally programmed and coached CMU Cycling and Nordic Ski. He also assisted all other sports programs at CMU. At the same time, Barney was actively involved in coaching at Fruita Monument High School and ran many youth camps. 

In 2014-2015 he coached as an assistant to BYU Football Performance while also working as a personal trainer in the Utah Valley.

Jake lives in Buena Vista, Va. with his wife Kirsten and their baby girl.
