WILMORE, Ky. Despite a 27-point, 8-rebound performance from Cory
Evans, the Southern Virginia Men's Basketball team could not come
back from a first-half deficit and lost to Asbury 87-84. Evans'
career high in points was matched point for point by Asbury's
Phillip Morrison who also put in 27-points. Evans was also the
game's leading rebounder as he paced the Knights' 35-rebound night.
"Cory had a fantastic game tonight," said Head Coach Brian
Pendleton. "We dug ourselves a hole in that first half, and we just
couldn't get enough points to get past them in the second half.
They are a good team, and this sort of competition should help us
get better. We just need to regroup, and play better tomorrow."
Evans was joined by Ade Swann, as he put in a double-double with
13-points and 10-assists. Chris Lewis and Bryce Pendleton had
11-points apiece to help the Knights battle back after going down
in the first half. The 45-40 deficit at the half proved too much
even with the Knights scoring 44-points in the second.
SVU shot 45% from the field as they hit 31 of 68 shots. The
Knights again got a solid bench scoring performance as the second
team players contributed 20-points.
SVU will be back in action Nov. 21 as the team faces Cincinnati
Christian University. The game will finish off SVU's participation
in the Christian College Classic hosted by Asbury. SVU now stands
at 4-2 on the season. The game against CCU is scheduled for a 2:00
tipoff.
