The Southern Virginia volleyball team came into the Washington and Lee Invitational on a four match winning streak.  Unfortunately, that streak came to a grinding halt as the Knights faced the top two ranked teams in NCAA III play.

In the first match on Friday, the Knights matched up against Juniata College, ranked second in NCAA III.  The Knights  were on fire in the first set and defeated Juniata by the score of 25-23.  Juniata then showed why they are ranked so highly as the took the next three sets from the Knights 15-25, 12-25, 13-25.

The Knights were led in kills by Brynn  Hansen with twelve, Samantha Sumsion with seven and Ashley Miles with six.  Ali Krebs accounted for 29 assists.

In the night cap, the competition did not get any easier as Southern Virginia squared off with Emory, the defending 2008 NCAA III national champions and most recently ranked number one in 2009.  The Knights  battled extremely hard but fell in three straight sets 20-25, 14-25, 15-25. 

Hillary Congdon tallied 18 digs in the match to go along with two service aces.  Ashley Miles led Southern Virginia on the offensive side with five kills while three others had four kills apiece.
