Knights Go 2-1 At Randolph Invitational

| Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

LYNCHBURG, Va. Desperately needing wins after a rough early week tri-match, the Southern Virginia University volleyball team beat the hosts, and Regis at the Randolph Invitational. Suffering two defeats against NCAA D.II competition, the Knights were hoping to rebound, and found the perfect remedy against Regis in the first mach of the day. Led by Brynn McGinn's 14-kills, SVU was able to put the visitors from Massachusetts away, with a 25-15, 16-25, 25-13 and 25-18 score. Ali Krebs had an astounding 48-assists for the match, and SVU hit a blistering .360 in the first set to find a hitting groove that would stay with them for the remainder of the day.

SVU would continue to find hitting success, as they faced off against the hosts in the second match of the day. McGinn, again, paced the Knights with 13-kills, and Krebs added 32-more kills, as SVU swept past the Wildcats with a 3-0 score. Tori Tuttle and Roxanne Krieger contributed another 14-kills (7-apiece) to the cause, and Southern Virginia had the makings of a successful day. McGinn and Nicole Gwynn added a defensive backbone to the match, as they recorded 14- and 17-digs respectively. The Knights were big at the net, as they blocked 10.5 attacks of the Wildcats.

The day ended on a tempered note, as SVU could not find the tournament sweep, and lost to Methodist, 0-3. McGinn finished with a strong 11-kills, but SVU could not muster enough hitting beyond the sophomore to get past the Monarchs. A string of ball handling errors prevented the Knights from continuing the hot hitting hands they'd had earlier, and left the team with the consolation of a 2-1 day.

The wins pushed the Knights to a 10-15 record. SVU will return home Oct. 19 when they host Eastern Mennonite. The 7:00 game will be a Dig For The Cure Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser game. All concessions will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and donations will be accepted.
