DANVILLE, Va & FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Southern Virginia Baseball team played four games in two days, winning the first two against University of Maine- Presque Isle, and dropping the last two against Eastern Mennonite. The Knights first traveled to play UMPI at Danville, Va on the Averett University field. Due to adverse weather conditions the teams had a rematch on the same field, and again the Knights were able to record an 11-1 victory. Jake Johnson got the win in a complete game as he struck-out 9-batter while only registering 6-hit and 1-run. Johnson helped his cause by batting in 2-runs, and Trager Hintze added to the offensive output, as he went 2-for-4 with 2-RBIs as well.

The following day SVU traveled to Fayetteville, N.C. to play UMPI again, and compete against EMU in an afternoon double-header.

SVU went for a hat-trick in victories against UMPI, and did it again by an 11-1 score. Nick Denny recorded the win, by only allowing two hits in four innings, and letting in one run in. Andrew Snider had a monster game for the Knights as he went 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs. The win pushed the Knights t a 3-1 record heading into the double-header with the Royals.

In the second game of the day for the Knights, the visitors were less kind to SVU, than in the first game. 4-runs in the fourth, off an outfield error helped push the Royals to an eventual 14-1 win. Darrell Brown took the loss to the NCAA D.III team. Tyler Cox played well for the Knights driving in the lone run for SVU in the 5th inning.

The final match of the day, the third in a single ay for SVU, was a tighter affair. EMU looked to finish the game early as a contest as they hit their way to a 6-0 lead after the first inning. EMU hit two home runs, and looked to have the game in control. The Knights, had different plans and began to whittle away at the lead. It looked as if SVU would blow open the game in the fourth, as they trailed 6-4. SVU had the bases loaded and looked for the surprise suicide squeeze. Jordan Williams streaked home, but landed on a dead ball at home plat. The called out took the wind out of the Knights' sails and they could not complete the comeback, losing 9-6.

The Knights, with the final loss, fall to 3-3 on the young season. They will look to return to action Feb. 27 when they travel to play at Montreat in a double-header. The first game is scheduled for 12:00, with the games taking place at nearby Blue Ridge Tech Field in Hendersonville, N.C.
