The Knights now face host and No. 2 seed Pfeiffer University in a winner-take-all matchup for a spot in the conference championship.
Southern Virginia opened the day against Pfeiffer, falling 8-5 in a tightly contested game.
The Knights came out strong, taking a 3-0 lead through the first two innings. Singles from Conner Robley, Ben Agnew, and Garrett Stauffer sparked the offense in the first, while additional hits from Bobby Rossi, Marcelino Leonardo Jr., and Robley helped plate another run in the second.
Pfeiffer evened the game in the third inning, capitalizing on three Southern Virginia defensive errors. The Falcons later took a 4-3 lead with back-to-back doubles.
The Knights responded with resilience. Mason Jones and Ryan Farris helped keep the offense moving, leading to an RBI groundout by Rossi to tie the game. Southern Virginia regained a 5-4 lead heading into the ninth after singles from Agnew, Zack Geertsen, and Stauffer.
However, Pfeiffer avoided elimination with a dramatic two-out, three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 8-5 win.
Jeffrey Hill delivered a strong outing on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run. Six Knights recorded multi-hit performances as the team totaled 15 hits in the loss.
Southern Virginia bounced back in the elimination game, defeating third-seeded Methodist 4-3 to stay alive in the tournament.
The Knights' pitching staff was sharp, as Benjamin Jackson, Brady Steelman, and Tad Peterson combined to allow just three runs.
Southern Virginia broke through with a four-run fourth inning. Mason Jones led off with a solo home run, and a Tyler Bales double, along with key defensive miscues by Methodist, helped extend the lead to 4-2.
The Monarchs pulled within one run late, but Steelman and Peterson shut the door, allowing just one hit over the final three innings to secure the win.
With the victory, the Knights set a new program record for postseason wins and advance to a decisive matchup against Pfeiffer. First pitch is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, with the time to be determined due to weather.
