DANVILLE, Va. Darrell Brown pitched a 4-hit shutout to help
the Southern Virginia Baseball team gain a split in the double
header against Averett. SVU had fallen in the first game to
the Cougars, 6-5, despite Andrew
Snider's 3-for-4 hitting performance.
SVU had taken an early 2-0 lead as they brought home C.J.
Andrus and Tyler Cox. The Knights were able to add runs in the
second inning, and again in the third. The 4-0 lead was added to
with Andrew Wrigley coming home in the fifth inning.
The lead looked to be enough for Derek
Snider to get the win, but the hosts exploded in the sixth
inning for the six runs necessary to get the win. Snider took the
loss, but had performed admirably until the sixth inning.
Snider made up for the loss in the first game as he scored the
winning run for the Knights in the top of the second inning. The
run would turn out to be all that Brown would need, as he pitched
seven strong innings. He struck out three batters and walked only
one Averett player.
Hits were at a premium, with SVU totaling only 6-hits compared
to Averett's 4. Andrew Snider led the visitors with 2-for-3 hitting
and an RBI.
With the split the Knights are now 14-9 on the season. SVU
returns to action March 30 when the team travels the short distance
to Lexington, Va to take on Washington & Lee for a second time.
The Knights were unable to stop the Generals' bats in the first
game falling 12-3. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
