WASHINGTON D.C. Abbie
Fisher went 7-for-8 in a double-header against Gallaudet to
give The Southern Virginia Softball team a sweep over the Bison 8-0
and 19-5. Fisher added 10-RBI's and had 2-homeruns in the routs of
Gallaudet, as the Knight got to .500 for the first time in the
season.
The first game started well for the Knights as Lindsay
Mellor led off with a double, and was brought home by a Fisher
single. SVU got two more runs to go up 3-0 at the end of the first
inning.
SVU added three more runs in the second, as Fisher got her first
home run of the day and Chloe
Stephens was able to score after getting on base from a
fielder's choice. Mellor and Stephens scored again in the third to
give the Knights the requisite 8-run lead to end the game in the
fifth inning.
Kyla Christmas pitched a perfect game as she went five innings
with 10-strikeouts and moved her record to 2-1. Christmas did not
let a runner get on base, and the Knight defense gave her the five
outs needed for the perfect game.
The 8-0 win helped push the Knights to a 2-3 record heading into
the second game of the double-header with the Bison.
SVU's bats were hot in the second game, as the first five
batters scored for the visitors. The Knights added four more,
including Fisher's second homerun of the day.
Amanda Otto went a strong 2-for-3 in the second game and
contributed 2-RBI's to the cause. Christmas went another strong
3-innings, striking out 6-batters. She gave up 2-hits and 3-runs,
but none of them were earned. She gave way to Fisher, who went two
innings giving up 2-runs on 1-hit. Christmas' efforts gave her the
win, and helped push her to 3-1 for the season.
SVU s now 3-3 on the season. The Knights return to action March
10 when they travel to play at Rappahanock Community College. The
first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
