FREDERICKSBURG, Va. The Southern Virginia Baseball team dropped the final two games of the regular season to Mary Washington 7-1 and 15-6, and now turns its attention to the USCAA National Tournament. Head Coach Logan Mann went to everyone on the roster to get them time in preparation for the tournament held May 10-14 in Orchard Beach, ME.

The first game proved a pitchers affair for the first four innings, as neither team was able to drive a runner home. SVU broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth as Skyler Shope singled, and then was driven home by an Ryan Carpenter single.

The run would be all the scoring the knights would muster in the first game as the bats went quiet for the visitors. SVU would strand three runners for the rest game, and could only get one runner into scoring position. UMW meanwhile was adding runs in the fifth, and then again in the sixth to get the 7-1 win.

The Knights used the bulk of their pitching staff to help prepare the battery for the upcoming tournament.

SVU jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, in the second game. Tyler Cox, Shope and Andrew Snider all came home to get the knights more scoring than they had in the first game. The visitors' defense could not hold the UMW offense at bay, and the hosts tacked on three runs in the bottom of the first to get the game back to even.

The Knights' pitchers were able to quiet UMW for two more innings before the hosts erupted for 12-runs over the final four innings. SVU tacked on 3-more runs in the fifth and seventh, but could not find enough offense to get close to UMW.

With the losses, SVU drops to 21-19, but concludes the most successful season in program history. The team ends with a winning record, and is looking for a high seed heading into the USCAA Tournament.
