LYNCHBURG, Va. After going down in the first set, the Southern
Virginia volleyball team bounced back for a big second set win, but
could not maintain momentum, and lost to Randolph 3-1. Led by
9-kills from Tori Tuttle, SVU was able to rebound from a
hard-fought first set. The Wildcats were able to jump out to an
early lead in the first set, but the visitors made a quick
turn-around, and had the chance for victory before the hosts closed
out the first set.
SVU started on fire for the second set, and quickly established
and insurmountable lead. The Knights were closing in on the
set-point before the Wildcats even had made it to double-digit
points. Paige Allred was leading the way in the second, as she
recorded three-kills in the second set. A 25-11 set win looked to
give the Knights a momentum they would need to finish the
match.
Randolph had different ideas, and the Wildcats took the next two
sets to get the 3-1 win. Despite the loss, SVU had good
performances turned in by Nicole Gwynn and Bryndy Anderson. Gwynn
recorded 31-assists, in leading the SVU offense. Anderson had a
strong outing on the offensive end, with 8-kills, and 4-block
assists on the defensive end.
SVU combined for fourteen team blocks, but had costly errors in
the blocking game, and in the receiving game which hurt them in the
end. With the loss, SVU moves to 6-9 on the season. The Knights
will return to action Sep. 30 when they host Roanoke in Knight
Arena. Game time is set for 6:30 pm.
