Knights Beat Generals For Best Start In Program History

LEXINGTON, Va. - A 2-0 win over host Washington & Lee gave the Southern Virginia University baseball team it's best start in program history. Led by Jake Johnson's 3-for-4 outing, the Knights scored a run in the first inning and another in the third to supply the margin of victory. Darrell Brown ensured the runs would stand as he went the distance, striking out five batters and giving up six hits in the shutout.

The Knights scored first for the sixth consecutive game, as Dale Brown scored off of a Josh Linn single. Linn had also moved Andrew Snider in to scoring position on third base, but an inning ending double play by the Generals extinguished the opportunity for more SVU runs.

Johnson would get his first hit of the game on a triple in the third inning. Dale Brown would then drive in the second run of the game. The remainder of the contest was a pitching duel, as Darrell Brown would shut out the hosts, and the Knights would get only three more hits, two coming from Johnson, for the remainder of the game.

The win for Brown gives him a record of 3-1 on the season. The win also moves him within three games of the most wins for a pitcher in SVU history. The win was also the first time the Knights have beaten W&L since the 2007, and give the Knights they're best start to a season in program history. SVU will look to extend that start when it travels to Eastern Mennonite Mar. 3. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
