Knights Scorched by Flames

LYNCHBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team suffered its third consecutive loss at Liberty University on Friday falling to the Flames 6-21.

"Our coaching staff made some changes to our players' positions and roles prior to Friday's game in an effort to get more out of our team as a whole," said first-year co-head coach Stephen Macurdy following the match. "We saw some improvements, but we also had some miscues that cost us big."

Ben Tillotson (Okatie, S.C.) netted a season-high three goals against Liberty, while Wade Kirwan (Havelock, N.C.), Garrett Maw (N. Ogden, Utah) and Joshua Neilson (Turlock, Calif.) each added a goal apiece in the loss.

Kirwan also finished with a team-high two assists.

Despite allowing 21 total goals, Southern Virginia (2-6) keeper Scott Trammel (Spring, Texas) stopped a season-high 70.8 percent of the shots-on-goal he faced, while totaling a career-best 51 saves against the Flames.

"Liberty was a better team tonight," said Macurdy. "But we will continue to build our program until we are on the same level of top-tier teams like Liberty."

After three consecutive games on the road, the Knights return home where they are undefeated (2-0) this season for a match with Elon University on The Fields beginning at 4 p.m. EST.
