DANVILLE, Va.—The Southern Virginia University softball team lost both games of Tuesday's doubleheader at Averett University as the Cougars prevailed 0-8 (six innings) and 1-4 against the visiting Knights.
Only two Knights—Sierra Call (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Sara Harmon (Buena Vista, Va.)—managed hits during Southern Virginia's (8-21) opening game at Averett (18-20) as the Cougar's Leah Powell collected her eighth (8-10) win of the season in four innings of work.
Senior Amanda Otto (Cypress, Texas) took the loss for Southern Virginia allowing nine hits and seven earned runs in four innings.
The Knights' offensive struggles continued during their second game at Averett with only three Southern Virginia players—Sarah Edwards (Phoenix, Ariz.), Cara Joyner (Columbia, Miss.) and Dinah Rogers (Huntington Beach, Calif.)—managing hits against Amy Hamlett who climbed to 8-6 with Tuesday's win.
Sophomore McKenzy MacKay (Kaysville, Utah) picked up the loss in Game Two despite allowing only three earned runs in six innings.
Southern Virginia's opponents have now outscored the Knights 82-147 for the season.
Softball has two days off before traveling to Washington Adventist University (8-26) on Friday, Apr. 13 for a doubleheader with the Shock beginning at 1 p.m. EST.
The Knights took both games from Washington Adventist during a home doubleheader on Mar. 22.
