SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—The Southern Virginia University baseball team cruised to an opening-round victory at the 2012 USCAA Small College World Series on Monday defeating Clark State Community College 10-0 (six innings).

Fifth-seeded Southern Virginia (17-16) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning against No. 4 Clark State and never looked back as the Knights increased their current winning streak to six games.

Tyler King (San Ramon, Calif.) pitched a gem for Southern Virginia throwing six innings of shutout ball, while allowing only six hits and striking out four batters as the sophomore increased his team-high win total to six games (6-6). 

"Tyler was dominant out there today," said third-year head coach Logan Mann.

Seven different Knights recorded at least one hit against Clark Sate with sophomore second baseman Robert Key (Flower Mound, Texas) leading the way going 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and a run. 

Catcher Barrett Price (Georgetown, S.C.) had a game-high 3 RBIs for Southern Virginia and three different Knights—Dale Brown (Mesa, Ariz.), Trager Hintze (St. George, Utah) and Andrew Snider (Lancaster, Calif.)—finished with two hits and two runs.

With Monday's victory, the Knights advance to play the No. 1 Spalding University (25-9-1) at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
