Box Score DOVER, Del.—Competing in a rare morning competition, the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team fell on the road to host Wesley College by a 1-0 score Saturday morning at Scott Miller Stadium in Dover, Delaware.
In a closely contested matchup in which the Knights (5-7-2, 1-3) held a slim 16-14 shots advantage and 8-6 shots-on-goal ratio, Wolverine Chelsi Biener put Wesley up early at the 13:27 mark by lobbing a shot over keeper MaKenzie Cox and into the net for the game-winning goal.
Freshman Jamilla Gambee led the Knights with five shots, including four on goal. Gabriella Santos contributed three shot attempts while Codee Park and Tatiana Monsen each tallied two shots for the game.
Biener led the Wolverines with six shot attempts while three others had a pair of shots. Wolverine keeper Nasia Denegal totaled eight saves during the match.
Cox registered five saves in a complete game in her loss to earn a 5-5-1 mark for the year.
The Knights next compete Tuesday in another CAC matchup at Mary Washington. Kickoff is slated for a 4 p.m. start in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
