Box Score SALISBURY, Md.—The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team dropped its conference road contest Saturday afternoon to Salisbury University, 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 23-25), in Salisbury, Maryland.
The Sea Gulls maintained control for most of the match as Southern Virginia struggled to find leads in all three games.
The Knights fell behind early in game one, trailing Salisbury 6-11 before rallying off five straight points—highlighted by two Hannah Phillips kills and a Katelynn Tlustek service ace—to knot the score at 11-11. The Knights eventually took a 15-14 lead, and a Kaitlyn Eaton kill left both squads tied at 22-22 late in the contest. A Southern Virginia service error and two Salisbury kills secured the game one win for the Sea Gulls.
The second game saw the Knights take a 6-4 advantage early, but the home team scored five in a row and would never look back on its way to taking set two.
It seemed as though Salisbury had the match in hand after taking a quick 12-6 lead in game three, but a Calyn Barry kill, two kills from Melissa Owen and three Sea Gull attack errors left the teams even at 12-all. Salisbury soon found a 21-17 lead and, despite a Southern Virginia late game surge, eventually took the match off a Katie Stouffer kill.
Eaton led all Southern Virginia hitters with 11 kills on the day, while Phillips and Vanessa Pawlak pitched in seven kills each. Tlustek gave the Knights 26 assists and, defensively, Phillips led the visitors with 13 digs.
Stouffer led all players with 15 kills on 31 attacks.
Volleyball is back in action on Wednesday, October 22, as it travels to Marymount University to take on the Saints in a conference matchup. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
