Men's Lacrosse Falls at Home to Alma College

BUENA VISTA, Va.—With increased energy and offensive strategy, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team scored a season-high four goals but fell to visiting Alma College by a 14-4 score Saturday afternoon at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.

The Knights (0-4) played a competitive first quarter and trailed just 2-0, but the Scots (1-3) went on a 6-1 scoring run in the second quarter to increase the advantage to 8-1 by the half that Southern Virginia could not recover from. Alma outshot the Knights by a 46-27 ratio and won the ground ball battle, 43-31, although both teams committed 26 turnovers apiece. The Scots also earned 17 of 21 faceoffs.

Freshman midfield Nash Wilkey continued to be an offensive force for Southern Virginia as he scored two goals and tacked on assists for three points on the afternoon. The Highland, Utah, native also led the team in shots with eight, including six on goal, and showed hustle by picking up four ground balls and causing two turnovers.

Ben Tillotson and Garrett Maw also scored for the Knights with Mike Bangerter contributing two assists for the day. Maw registered seven shot attempts, Tillotson had three and Bangerter and Cody Pennington each tallied three.

The Scots' Marshall Argenta and Kyle Schnitzer each had four goals for Alma while TJ Miller scored three goals. Tyler Bennett, David Foster and Isiah Colmore each had one goal apiece.

Newcomer Tyler Cox started at goalie for the Knights and logged nine saves in the loss.

The Knights return to action next Wednesday at home with a matchup against Bridgewater College. The first faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at The Fields.
