Men's Lacrosse Overcome by Marymount in CAC Play

BUENA VISTA, Va.—In its second Capital Athletic Conference appearance, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team fell at home to Marymount University, 22-2, Saturday afternoon at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.

Freshman Nash Wilkey provided the scoring for the Knights, adding both goals to give him 12 goals on the season. Senior Thomas Canady led the way on defense by collecting five ground balls and causing two turnovers.

Down 14-0 in the second quarter, Wilkey dodged from behind the goal and past his defender to notch his first goal of the game.

The Saints scored two goals in the third quarter before Wilkey added the Knights' final goal at the 4:00 mark of the third quarter. Marymount closed out the game with six unanswered goals, increasing the lead to 22-2.

Marymount outshot the Knights by a 60-8 ratio and won the ground ball battle, 29-22. The Saints also earned 26 of 28 faceoffs for the game, while the Knights were only able to clear on five of 16 opportunities.

Tyler Cox set a new career high with 22 saves on the afternoon as the goalkeeper for the Knights.

The Knights return to action this next Saturday traveling to confernce foe Mary Washington. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at The Battle Ground Athletic Complex.
