Box Score

By Laura Tome

BUENA VISTA, VA.—The Southern Virginia University softball team extended its losing streak as it fell, 22-0, to Guilford College Friday evening at Harvey-Dryden Field in Buena Vista, Va.

Freshman Cassandra Pacheco started and ended in the circle for the Knights to get pinned with the loss. The visiting Quakers struck first after taking advantage of three Knight fielding errors in the first inning to make the score 3-0.

Leadoff batter MaKenzie Cox started the inning off with a base hit to the right side, but was thrown out in a double play on a ground ball by catcher Katie Evans. Cheyenne Hegsted tried to keep things going with a double to left field, but McKenzie Packard lined out to second base to end the inning.

Guilford's Alex Todd doubled to start the inning and was hit around by Machala Vestal. The Quakers continued the inning and scored four more runs off of six hits and one error. The Knights were unable to answer back the second inning as they went three-up, three-down. The Knights shut the Quakers down offensively in the third inning as Pacheco recorded two strikeouts and shortstop Cox took care of a groundball.

Jamie Pinkston stepped in the circle for the fourth inning and allowed six hits and six runs to bring the score to 16-0. The Knights were shutdown offensively once again in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Quakers continued to attack and hit three homeruns before Pacheco took the circle and created a ground ball for Cox to end the inning.

McKell LaJeunesse reached first and picked up two stolen bases to earn her way into scoring position, but was left stranded to end the game 22-0.

Rebekah Langston earned the win for the Quakers as she improved her record to 9-1 for the season.

The Knights gear up to face Bridgewater College in a doubleheader on Saturday for their last contest of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Harvey-Dryden Field, with a Senior Day ceremony scheduled at the end of the first game.
