LEXINGTON, Va.—In its second match of the day, the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team bounced back after losing its first match at the Washington and Lee Tournament, sweeping Maryville College 3-0 by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-20, at Doremus Gym in Lexington, Va.
Southern Virginia's offense was on point Friday evening, as it committed only 11 attack errors in the match, compared to the Lady Scots' 25.
The Knights gained a strong performance from senior Kaitlyn Eaton as the middle blocker put away 12 kills on 27 attempts for a .444 hitting percentage. The Syracuse, Utah, native also recorded a team-best seven blocks on the defensive side of the net.
Calyn Barry contributed five kills of her own, while Vanessa Pawlak, Hannah Phillips and Shannon Romito all pitched in three kills apiece.
Defensive specialist April Bennett led all Southern Virginia players with nine digs, with McKenna Koster and Pawlak giving seven digs of their own.
Setters Katelynn Tlustek and Valerie Arkansas completed the Knight offense with 10 and 15 assists, respectively.
With the victory, the Knights improve to 3-3 on the year, while Maryville falls to 3-3.
